1) They Identify Blind Spots
A blind spot is where you are not seeing your potential or available opportunities and choices. A common blind spot is not seeing that the ‘thing’ you do effortlessly, not everyone can do. Example: I employ a guy to do my spreadsheets. He thinks in spreadsheet format. He is amazed that people don’t or can’t do spreadsheets. A coach can help locate your blinders.
2) They Have Lived It
Most coaches have experienced “A Hero’s Journey.” This is a story-telling pattern that describes how the hero overcomes adversity and in the process discovers his own inner greatness then brings his unique and newly honed gifts back to help save or improve the lives of his people. Everyone is in some phase of this journey. A coach can help you manage where you are in the journey.
3) Self Help Only Goes so Far
You will progress faster along your path toward your goals or away from suffering when you have guidance from a real, live person. Do you notice that a problem can perplex you until you articulate it to someone? Once your thoughts and feelings are clarified, they can be changed into doable action steps.
4) A Coach Knows When
Like a mother bird, a good coach will challenge you to test your wings. A coach will help identify your rules then ask you to challenge them. (Nothing illegal, immoral or life threatening.) Example: Is it expected that dessert should be eaten after a meal? What would it feel like to eat dessert first? As your unique, limiting rules are located, your coach can support you while you explore paths to greater freedom.
5) It’s All About You
When you express your issues to your friends or family there is an understanding that you must reciprocate by listening to theirs. Each coach session is dedicated to you. A Life Coach in your corner is one who sees you at your best potential and holds the space for you while journey toward it.
6) Bonus!
No matter what your life is like right now, a Life Coach can help you make it better – take it to the next level.
